3D Art II - Final Project, Part 3

After three weeks of work on my Elder Thing creature model, I now have the final textured model.  As stated in the edit to the previous post, I went back and fixed the few issues that had been pointed out to get myself back on track.  With my finished game res model and a good initial bake, I went on to make the final textures.  Here are the final results for my work on the model.

Common Art 2 - Sprint 7 Updates

With this being our final sprint of the semester, and the point where we were supposed to have everything at a C level, I took the opportunity to make a few more small items to help decorate the level, which I showed off here.  Besides what is shown off in the video, there was one change I neglected to record - I remade the Pokémon pen to include a separate gate mesh that could open and close, in response to some of the criticism I'd heard.  It's in there, I just forgot to record it and focused on the new stuff I made.

3D Art II - Final Project, Part 2

Here's the next installment on my creature model - the game resolution model, and the inital bake.  This time was something of a mixed success - The most important part, the game res model and UVs, came out really good, but I didn't quite have time to create a good looking initial bake, or address some of the comments about my high res sculpt.  Let's go to the pictures and see what I made:

As I said, the game res model and UVs are looking pretty good.  I even had time to do something extra - I created a prototype for the hairs that the professor suggested I add to the creature.  The model and texture are good, and, while I haven't put cards on all of the parts of the head yet, it's pretty clear where it's headed.

The initial bake, unfortunately, didn't turn out so well - when I tried it out, things came out all distorted and misaligned.  What I think the problem is, is that the High Resolution sculpt is not overlapping right with the game res in some way, but, because of both time constraints and a lack of knowledge as to where I would start, I didn't get this issue resolved before the deadline.  I filed this one away, along with finishing the hairs and making those slight alterations to the High Res sculpt, to complete during the next block of time, since I don't expect the actual texturing on this to be too time consuming.

Turn in #1, April 11th - Proxy Model and High Res Sculpt: Deadline met!  Proxy complete, High Res completed (though some modifications were asked for by professor, which can be taken care of intermittently during next two blocks).

Turn in #2, April 18th - Game Resolution model and initial bake: Deadline met, mostly - game res model and UVs were made, hair creation process solidified, but the Game Res UV did not come out quite right, pending assistance from the professor.

Turn in #3, April 25th - Final textured model: Next Deadline.

UPDATE (3/19) - with a bit of extra time to mess with things, and a bit of guidance from the professor, I did manage to get a good, nice looking, clean bake in substance painter.  In the process, I also went back to the high resolution sculpt and add a bit more of that nice wrinkle detail that Nick asked for.  So, here all that is, albeit a bit belated.

3D Art II - Final Project, Part 1

After spending some time working on the final project, the Elder Thing creature model, I've met my self appointed deadline for this point - I've got the proxy model and the high resolution sculpt ready to go.  Here are what those look like right now:

Project Schedule update:

Turn in #1, April 11th - Proxy Model and High Res Sculpt: Deadline met!  Proxy complete, High Res completed (though some modifications were asked for by professor, which can be taken care of intermittently during next two blocks).

Turn in #2, April 18th - Game Resolution model and initial bake: Next deadline.

Turn in #3, April 25th - Final textured model

3D Art 2 - Final project Schedule

As stated in an edit to the previous post, I have decided to make another creature model for this final assignment, specifically an Elder Thing from At the Mountains of Madness.  TO pace out this project, I've created the following schedule for what will be turned in at what due dates:

Turn in #1, April 11th - Proxy Model and High Res Sculpt

Turn in #2, April 18th - Game Resolution model and initial bake

Turn in #3, April 25th - Final textured model

Again, as sated, I'm going in a slightly more stylized direction for this creature model to accommodate the time I've been given, and will be drawing from the following reference:

Common Art 2 - Sprint 6 Updates

This time around, I was focusing on getting everything up to a C level.  I added a few new models, and modified a few old ones, to try to get the environment as close to our final geometry as possible.  Here are the results.

3D Art II - Final Project Proposals

For our final project for 3D Art II, we were required to essentially figure out our own project.  Now, as I'm specializing in environment/prop art, it would probably be most pragmatic to find a prop or environment asset to make for my final project.  However, I can't really think of anything I want to make for that.  Creature models aren't my specialty, but doing another (simpler) creature model sounds like a fun project.  So!  Here are my three proposals for the creature I'd like to model for my final project.  They're going to be simpler than the last, and more on the stylized side, of course.

Idea #1 - Old Saybrook Blockhead (alleged real-life alien encounter):

Idea #2 - Paciencia Abductor (alleged real-life alien encounter):

Idea #3 - Elder Thing (At the Mountains of Madness, short story by H. P. Lovecraft):

EDIT - After consulting with Nick, I decided that #3 - the Elder Thing, was our winner, and that would be the creature I'd be making.

Personal Portfolio Development - Project 3, "Week" 4

Okay, so, it really hasn't been a week.  My Ventures project didn't need any more props or environment assets from me, so I wound u...
